Austin D'Almeida is pumped. He should be. Not only did his company, Jersey Barnfire just release the epic new Garden State Green,it won a Screaming Mi Mi Award for best Pepper Blend Mild at the 2017 NYC Hot Sauce Expo.
"It was inspired by two things - our love of the state's fresh grown produce and a want to not waste our unripened green chiles," explains D'Almeida, "We take this 'seed to bottle' approach very seriously and grow all the chiles we use except locally farmed jalapeños when in season. The northern Jersey grow season is short and only a little more than half our crop comes ripe. The green chiles are perfect for this type of sauce. We combine tomatillos, cilantro and lime with a little jalapeño and our green pepper mash to deliver a serious lime cilantro blast to the taste buds.
Garden State Green is as close to a restaurant fresh verde sauce as you can find in a bottle. And you can get it at Hop Sauce Fest on June 3.
